Final
reflective
Technology is serving and solving problems and is also a creative
and focused activity aimed at meeting needs and opportunities through the
growth, development of products, systems
or the surroundings (Smorti,1999). Firstly
it has been an exciting journey of group blog project and was an advantage for
me doing technology reflection on the blogger. Reflective practice is
looking at yourself and your teaching and being self awareness so you can be
alert of why you teach and the way you do (O’Connor
& Diggins, 2002). In this course people, place and things I have learnt to
come to know how create my own personal blog site and write reflection on
technology which can be digital and non-digital device. Te
Whāriki states that: “The curriculum is provided by the people, places, and
things, in the child’s environment: the
adults, the other children their physical environment and the resources” (p.11).
My own learning about creating a blog site and writing reflections
on technology was something new and unique to try , natural thinking; imaginative
which are my own ideas, opinions that I put into my blog
reflection for the comments for my groups and also reflected on what I have noticed about the children in my
early childhood setting. I have learnt
about the issue of digital and non digital technology and how the children use
in the different areas of early childhood setting.
In fact, in my own
experience before when I heard about the word technology I thought it was
concerning all about the digital technology that is operated using power. But
after the lecturer explanations, the readings in this course people place and things
then I came know about technology and the differences about the digital and the
non- digital technology. (Fleer and Jane 2011) confirmed that technology is everything we
use around us for example, construction, clothing, tools, computers, etc. In
fact, we both had the same insights as the teachers in my centre. I found it
very challenging in creating the blog. It was my first time so I was supported
by my group members. According to MacNaughton, & Williams (2009) suggesting
is form of involvement where people believe they have better, more interesting
ways to do things such as giving ideas,
advice and recommendations to others.
From the students’
feedback on my post, I have learnt that I have been very honest on about
writing the digital and non-digital technology reflections. I defined the
technology term which was clear for a reader and showed the differences about
the digital and non-technology devices that are daily provided to the children
in my early childhood centre. I really appreciated on the positive and
respectful comments given by the group members. I was not given any critique comments on my
blog post from other students which made me feel that I was right on
identifying the learning, development and the links made on the three
reflections which I had written on my blog post. In my blog post reflection I
was given positive feedback on the issues of the digital and non-digital
technology. The issues which I got the feedback from other students and which I
have learnt was that I was very observant of
what the children had been doing
and also have thoughts in mind of extending their interest on these technology
reflections. Children
develop an understanding of how these technologies helps them and others in the
today’s world (Ministry of Education, 1996).
Talay-Ongan states that
"Technology-integrated toys such as Lego, Mobilo, Robot kits, are great
examples, which provide children with opportunities to plan and solve problems,
and it improves their technology skills" (Talay-Ongan, 2005, p.226-227). I
have learnt that I wrote my reflection in so simple words that it was
understood by the other students and also I had
covered the criteria of linking the reflection to the literature while writing
and posting the blog on technology. The
other student’s feedback for my blog post was that I explained the technology
process very well in three different kinds of digital and non- digital
reflections and has now helped them to understand what is technology and
knowledge they have gained by reading through the reflections. Technology helps children to become
confident and gives them the opportunities to solve the problems. It also encourages risk taking, divergent thinking and
solutions to the problems (Ministry of Education, 2007).
Overall evaluation:
According to the reflections I have
written and the feedback which was given from other students on digital and non-digital
technology, I have now realised, understood how significance is the use of
technology on children’s learning and development. I believe it is vital to
provide children with digital and non-digital devices of technology so that the
children develop skills such as, problem-solving, cognitive, language and fine
and gross motor skills. In my opinion I believe children should be provided
with more opportunities of technology and which are the digital and non-digital
device. The reason for providing children to use varieties of technology on
children’s learning and development is that the children will learn interaction
with other peers, grow experience in solving problems, understand how the
digital and non digital technologies can help them and others and it is solving
problem which contributes to self confidence and well-being.
